By David Bray - email

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - Calcasieu Parish would have two congressmen under a redistricting plan presented on Monday in the State Senate. The plan would cut Calcasieu in half. The western half would be part of the Shreveport district, the eastern half would be in the Lafayette district.

The proposal was put forward in an amendment to a different redistricting plan, the senators rejected the amendment on Monday, but it could be reintroduced on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, in the State House, lawmakers approved a plan that would keep Calcasieu in the new coastal district 3 that would also include Lafayette.
