LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - Louisiana has become one of the most popular locations in the country for film and television production, thanks to special tax incentives.
Entertainment companies can receive up to 35% in tax credits for film, and 25% for digital/interactive media, music and live performance productions.
More than 300 movies and TV shows have been filmed in Louisiana in the last ten years, generating as much as $1.5 billion in economic activity.
"While we've seen a great deal of growth in the film world, it has spurred an economic development effort with all things entertainment," said Sherri McConnell, executive director of Louisiana's Entertainment Industry Development.
McConnell says while most entertainment productions take place in markets outside of Southwest Louisiana, she believes Lake Charles can also become a major film hub in Louisiana if it focuses on cultivating its local talent.
