LOUISVILLE, Ky. (FOX19) - The National Weather Service has confirmed at least two tornadoes touched down in Kentucky as a cold front brought high winds and heavy rain to the state.

The first tornado touched down at 4:59 a.m. about 1.5 miles Southeast of Eminence in southern Henry County. It then crossed into the Springhill Estates Subdivision where two homes were destroyed. Three other outbuildings were also destroyed.

Trees were uprooted and snapped. The twister was categorized as EF-3 with winds ranging from 135 to 140 mph. The tornado left a path of damage 2.3 miles long and 150 yards wide.

The tornado weakened as it traveled Northeast across KY 1359. In this area, 15 power poles were blown down along the highway. One barn was destroyed and another had the roof blown off.

The tornado continued across KY 22 where trees were blown down and one outbuilding was damaged. The tornado lifted near Drennon Creek. The path width was 60 yards when the tornado lifted.

A second tornado, categorized as an EF-1, touched down south of Millersport near the intersection of Millersport Road and Canal Road in around 6 a.m. in Fairfield County. The tornado destroyed a few barns and outbuildings and took off the roof from a home. Numerous trees were uprooted with a significant amount of debris thrown as far as 500 yards from its source.

As the system moved east, it also prompted tornado and flood watches and warnings across the state.

  • EF1...WIND SPEEDS 86 TO 110 MPH

  • EF3...WIND SPEEDS 136 TO 165 MPH
  • EF4...WIND SPEEDS 166 TO 200 MPH
  • EF5...WIND SPEEDS GREATER THAN 200 MPH.
