SULPHUR, LA (KPLC) - For years illegal dumping has been a problem. Well, two new parish drop off centers in the works may be part of the solution.  Members of the Calcasieu Police Jury Solid Waste Committee discussed plans to add the new center. It would take household garbage, old furniture, appliances and limbs...though most of the details are still being worked out. For instance jurors want to know if they would be open on weekends. Public Works Director Allen Wainright suspects so.

Jurors approved a contract for architectural services. They hope to open the centers in September.

As well members of the committee have begun work on the more complex process of requesting proposals for solid waste collection and disposal. Administrator Bryan Beam says the staff will come back with recommendations on key issues March 17th.

Waste Management has the current contract which ends in 2012.
