The following is a news release from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office:

Lake Charles – On January 11, at 7:30 pm, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office deputies received an alarm call at a home on 6th Avenue.  Upon arriving at the home, deputies found a broken window and an open door.  The deputies cleared the residence and waited for the homeowner to arrive.  After the homeowner checked through his home, he stated a credit card was missing.  When contacting the credit card company to advise them of the theft, they advised him that the credit card had already been used at a local convenience store.

Following the deputies viewing the store surveillance video, they were able to get a description of the suspect using the stolen credit card.  After searching the area, they located the suspect, Latasha R. Gray, 31, of Lake Charles.

Gray confirmed to detectives she had stolen and used the credit card.  She was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with simple burglary; theft under $500; simple criminal damage to property; and forgery.

Judge Wilford Carter set his bond for $6,000.

CPSO Detective Sgt. Deveda Benoit is the lead investigator in this case.

High grass and weeds can be hiding places for pests like rodents and snakes, and they can breed mosquitoes. That's why Lake Charles resident Raymond LeDay wants to know why billion-dollar company Entergy doesn't cut its grass. The Southeast corner of Highway 171 and Fitzenreiter Road is a large tract of land. Much, if not most of it, is owned by Entergy.
