Man accused of attack claims innocence

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - The man accused of attacking a woman on her front porch in November says he wasn't in town the night of the crime.

Tyre Edwards, 20, called KPLC Monday night to explain his whereabouts.  Edwards wouldn't say where he was living but did say he's tried contacting detectives working the case.

Edwards claims he was released from jail in October and left town around two weeks later.

In November, police received a report of a woman who was attacked while standing on her front porch at an apartment complex on Fifth Avenue.  During the investigation, Lake Charles Police began looking for Edwards in connection with the incident.  In December, an arrest warrant was issued and media were given information about the crime in January.

Edwards said he plans to provide proof to authorities via fax.
