Homeless struggle to survive in cold weather

LAKE CHARLES, LA.(KPLC) -The freezing weather is uncomfortable for many people-- but especially the homeless. Ruth and John are a homeless couple who live in a tent in a wooded area in Lake Charles not far from I-10. Like most homeless in the community they come daily to Abrahams Tent for a meal and spend the rest of their day walking or taking the bus around town, trying to accomplish various things.

Today's errands include a trip to a local food pantry to get some groceries. They can come once a month. Eventually they wind up back at their camp site where they'll focus their attention on trying to stay warm for the night.

Ruth and John let us tag along with them for several hours today... Tonight on nightcast we'll get a better feel for a day in the life of a homeless couple-- and their hopes for better times ahead.
