LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - With the cold weather comes the possibility of pipes freezing. In many cases people will continuously run their water to prevent damage, but during a period with very little rain city officials are asking people to use caution.
"It would drain the supply pretty quick. The pumps would have to work a lot harder to maintain it. If you have a disaster, you want to make sure you have enough water pressure to meet that disaster," said Sulphur Mayor, Chris Duncan.
Instead of running water, there are plenty of other options to help prevent frozen pipes. Hardware stores sell supplies used to cover and insulate pipes.
