LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - A couple from Lake Charles kicked off the year 2011 with the birth of their healthy baby boy, Jaedyn Cole Papion.

Papion was born at 10:12 a.m. on January 1, 2011 to Lauren Cormier and Eric Papion of Lake Charles. Jaedyn weighed six pounds and six ounces and measured in at 19 3/4 inches long.

Jaedyn's mother said the baby was not due for another 2 weeks.

"He came pretty quick," said Lauren Cormier, Jaedyn's mother. "It was a pleasant surprise for us."

The newborn's father was also surprised to see his first child born on the first day of 2011.

"I remember waking up at 11 o'clock yesterday morning on New Year's Eve, and I had this feeling," said Papion. "Now one day later I'm looking at my little boy."

Cormier said she believes Jaedyn looks the most like his father.

"I think that he looks like his daddy for sure," said Cormier. "He has his nose and his fingers. He's all his daddy I think."

The proud father of Jaedyn is hoping his son will acquire his same love for football.

"This is my future money maker right here," said Papion, as he rocks his new baby boy to sleep.

But for now, however, the proud parents are just enjoying this special time with family and friends at their side.

"That's something we can tell him when he grows up, that he was the first baby of the new decade," said Papion. "I think that's kind of cool."

The hospital presented Jaedyn with a special New Year's gift basket. The family would like to thank Lake Charles Memorial Hospital for Women and everyone else in the community for their support.
