LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - A Lake Charles child remains in stable condition on Tuesday morning at an Alexandria hospital after he was hit by a car in DeQuincy on Monday night.
The 7-year-old boy was transported to a hospital in Alexandria by way of helicopter Monday night. DeQuincy Police say the boy and his grandfather were leaving Dairy Queen when the child darted into the road and was struck by a vehicle. Police said the boy was thrown 25 feet.
Emergency responders had to move the young boy to the Brookshire Brothers parking lot in DeQuincy to allow enough room for the Acadian Ambulance helicopter to land and take off.
"A female driver, she couldn't stop. She tried to but it was one of those unfortunate accidents that happen. She wasn't at fault. Even the Grandfather said the kid ran right out in front of her. No charges are being filed at this time, pending breathalyzer tests," said Chief Michael Suchanek with DeQuincy Police.
