A gas explosion damages a plant in Youngsville

YOUNGSVILLE, LA (KPLC) - A major explosion in the Youngsville area near Highway 92 went off in the early hours this morning.

Investigators say it was a compressor that exploded at Texas Gas Company. The blast blew the roof off the structure it was in, damaging about half of it.

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Department says there is a safety mechanism on the machine which prevented gas from leaking out.

Luckily there were no injuries or evacuations.

Rain chances remain about the same through the rest of the day as those bands of rain from the tropical wave move across the area.  The rain does taper off slightly during the overnight hours but is still a factor come tomorrow.
