LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - Lake area stores are extending their business hours this week to accommodate last minute Christmas shoppers.

Toys 'R' Us is remaining open around the clock from December 23rd until 9 p.m. on Christmas Eve. Old Navy is also staying open all night from December 23rd until 7 p.m. on December 24th.

Prien Lake Mall is also slightly extending their hours as they are staying open until 6 p.m. on the last shopping day before Christmas.

Merchants said staying open the extra hours this holiday season brings in more business and better accommodates those last minute stragglers.

"It gives them more time to shop if they haven't had time yet," said Wesley Lejeune, a sales associate with Old Navy.

Last minute shoppers are excited about the extended hours this holiday shopping season.

"When you have children it's very important to make everything as special as you can," said Carol Pirkle, a Toys 'R' Us customer. "Sometimes it's that one little last item that you've forgotten that makes the gift complete."

Although many lake area merchants are offering longer hours this holiday season, stores are urging customers to come in before supplies run out.

"Customers have been coming in every second so just come in as soon as you can to get what you need," said Lejeune.

As supplies are running low, it has some shoppers worried they won't find those perfect gifts.

"My wife is kind of tricky to buy for," said John Palma, a last minute shopper. "She wants everything but doesn't want nothing at the same time."

But through using consumer profiles, The Buckle is able to help some unsure customers purchase the perfect gifts for their loved ones.

"If their wives have shopped here before, we're able to look up their profiles to see the things they've bought in the past," said Dena Totten, store manager for The Buckle. "This way we can track their sizes and interests."

Store managers added they have seen more men than women purchasing last minute gifts in the last couple shopping days before Christmas.
