A man crashes his car into a portable building at the Port of Lake Charles

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - A man was arrested and charged with DWI late last night after he crashed his car through a gate and into a portable building at the Port of Lake Charles.

Commander James McGee with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office says it happened sometime between 9 and 10 Friday night.

The driver, 25-year-old Devon Shelton crashed into an unoccupied guard shack at the Port. After he was arrested he was brought to the Sheriff's office and given a Breathalyzer test. He was over the legal limit and charged with DWI First Offense and Careless Operation of a Vehicle.

Since this was Shelton's first DWI offense, he was released from custody. Investigators say any damage done to the property will be handled between Shelton and Port authorities.
