One dead after crash on I-10 in Jeff Davis Parish

JENNINGS, LA (KPLC) - A horrific crash on Interstate 10 in Jeff Davis Parish Friday afternoon took the life of a Texas man, and injured a woman and small child.

State Police say a 2008 Chrysler Sebring rolled over near Jennings after the driver lost control. The impact ejected two adults and a 3-year-old child from the vehicle.

24-year-old Marcel B. Durell of Port Arthur, Texas was a passenger in vehicle, he was airlifted to a Lake Charles hospital where he died.

The Driver, 24-year-old Courtney A. Fontenot of Missouri City, Texas, and the small child were to taken to the hospital with moderate injuries. State troopers say the child was not properly restrained.

A routine toxicology sample was obtained from the driver and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.  The investigation is continuing and charges are pending.

Ryan Trahan, of Blue Dog restaurant in Lafayette, received the title after winning the Louisiana Seafood Cook-Off.   The competition happened Tuesday, June 19 In Lafayette. It included 12 chefs from across Louisiana, including Lake Charles' Justin East.
