LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - For years now, the Top Teens of America chapter in Lake Charles has been providing young adults ages 13 to 19 a program to become part of their community.  This year for Veterans' Day, the group adopted the Chester Moses with the Top Ladies of Distinction.

"We just put flags on the grave sites and made sure it was clear around the graves," said Moses.

Top Teens president Jonathan Gallien says it was a learning experience for all of them.

"I learned the sacrifices they made for us," said Gallien.  "How we need to respect them and recognize them.  Sometimes they go forgotten."

Through the Veterans Day program, the Top Teens were given the chance to show their appreciation for those serving their country in the armed services.

"They are taught to recognize and honor their veterans because they have paid the price for us," Gallien said.  "They protected our country.  That's one of the things we wanted them to continue learning how to do.  When this group has finished, they should be able to pass it on to the next group of teens."

"It gives me the opportunity to help my community in meaningful ways," stated Gallien.  "I really enjoy that.  I've been in it since I was young.  It taught me skills for leadership and being dedicated to my community."

Seventy nine year old Robert Colston was gunned down on June 5, 2016.  Stacy Johnson was convicted of first degree murder which would mean life in prison without parole for an adult.  But because Johnson was only sixteen at the time, life without parole was not automatic.  A hearing was required.
