LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - Child pornography, child abuse and even rape, in many cases these horrible acts are not an overnight process. Far too often it starts at your child's computer.
"This is not just innocent, fun loving kids, having a good time. This is open to the world, the world wide web," said Corey Bourgeois with the High Technology Crime Unit in the Louisiana Attorney General's office.
During a presentation it was stressed to never release your first and last name, you age, your address, your phone number, or even your school. Officials said the dangers lurking in cyber space are real, and it all stems from the pictures you post to the information you release. Popular networking sites are fun, and even helpful in some cases, but they also provide a platform for child predators to seek out the young and vulnerable. Officials say a child predator will spend months building a false relationship with a young person before taking it to the next step.
