LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - January, 2011 construction along Lake Street in Lake Charles will begin. $6.8 million will be spent to upgrade the sewer, water, and drainage systems, between Sale Street and the intersection of McNeese Street and Lake Street. The road will be upgraded to four lanes. During the 18 month project the city will try to keep two of the existing three lanes open at all times, still business owners along Lake Street believe the construction will be an inconvenience.

"I am scared. I am a little nervous about the project. It's a long project, 18 months to have that inconvenience, but I think if we work together it will be less of a headache," said Patricia Prebula, owner of L.A. Fitness.

"I know there will be some inconvenience, a little dusty at times. I don't think this is going to an issue that anyone really needs to worry about. Everyone will work through it just fine," said Zeb Johnson, owner of Johnson Funeral home.
