LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) –
Sweets and treats can fill up your stocking, but healthy gifts are the ones that keep on giving. Buying gifts that won't blow your friend or family member's diet can really bring holiday cheer, says personal trainer Shelby Hodges from LA Fitness.
Water aerobics instructor and trainer Charlotte Antonetz suggests a smoothie maker or gift certificate for a massage. You can also get them back in the gym with a personal training session or two. Workout gear, like a yoga mat, dumbbells or DVDs, can jump start their New Year's resolutions. Healthy cookbooks make a great hostess gift. Also, try sneaking some healthy apps on an iPad or smart phone gift or pre-loading a workout playlist on an mp3 player. Hodges said kids can get in the healthy holiday spirit too.
"If they're going to be playing video games, why not get up and move instead of sitting there on the couch and playing video games? Adults can get involved with their children on the game as well so that may help them stay motivated. It could be a family competition," said Hodges.
Nintendo Wii's popular workout game Wii Fit is a sure bet. Xbox's new gaming system sans-controllers, Kinect, will also get you off the couch.
"I think people would appreciate something maybe they wouldn't go out and buy themselves," said Antonetz.
