Early morning fire causes damages at Calcasieu Correctional Center

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - An early morning fire damages the kitchen area at the Calcasieu Correctional Center in Lake Charles.

Sheriff Tony Mancuso tells 7News it happened around 2 a.m. Friday. He says hot towels from the jail's laundry were left in a bucket in the kitchen. They were so hot that they caught fire, leaving ashes, a little smoke damage, and a charred wall behind.

According to the Sheriff, none of the inmates were hurt. Jail officials did not have to move any of the prisoners.

Mancuso also says the fire was put out before firefighters arrived, and the kitchen should be operational again Friday (12-3-10) morning.

7News will keep you posted on the clean-up.
