Soldier stationed at Fort Polk killed in Afghanistan

The following is a news release from the United States Military:

Fort Drum, NY - A 10th Mountain Division Solider stationed at Fort Polk, Louisiana, was killed in Wardak Province, Afghanistan, Saturday, November 27 from wounds sustained in a rocket propelled grenade attack.

Killed was Private Devon J. Harris, 24, of Mesquite, Texas. He was a combat engineer with the Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division. 

Harris joined the Army in August 2009.  After training, he arrived at Fort Polk in December 2009 and deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in October 2010.

Harris's awards include the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Army Service Ribbon.

Harris is survived by his mother and father. 

*Please note* the home of the 10th Mountain Division is Fort Drum, NY, however, the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, is based out of Fort Polk, Louisiana.
