LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC-TV) –The holiday hiring season is in full swing across the Lake Area.

Several retailers 7 News spoke were either in the process of hiring or planned on hiring seasonal staff, including Target, Old Navy, Best Buy and JC Penney.

But the holiday hiring is not just limited to the national retail stores.

Locally owned Accessory Zone is also hiring.

"We hire about 5 to 6 accessory girls every year for the holiday," said assistant store manager Jana Armentor. "We're very busy and we always need extra hands just to help out customers."

Debbie McDonald was hired on as a gift wrapper recently. In fact, McDonald is a regular holiday helper. She says she enjoys the interaction with customers.

"Making things pretty in packages for them so they won't have to do it when they get home," said McDonald.

According to a recent survey by CareerBuilder, half of hiring managers this year plan on paying seasonal employees at least $10 per hour. In addition, 40 percent of employers plan on keeping their holiday workers well past Christmas.

"Actually last year we hired at least two of our holiday girls as full time employees, who have stayed with us and are still here to help us with this holiday season too," said Armentor.

Armentor said those interested in a seasonal job at Accessory Zone should come in, ask for an application and ask to see the hiring manager.
