LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) – Smoking cigarettes is a habit many Americans can't kick even though many methods to quit smoking like a nicotine patch, gum or prescription pills line store shelves.
Hypnotist Rob Rue says all you need to do to stop smoking is relax. He doesn't use a gold watch, but rather just the sound of his voice to lull you into a state of semi-consciousness. Rue estimates he has several hundred success stories so far.
"We [hypnotists] are recognized by the American Medical Association in 1958 and a lot of hospitals use hypnosis...law enforcement uses hypnosis. It's really not as mysterious as people think," said Rue.
Rue said some people have side effects from the hypnosis session to quit smoking like nausea or vomiting, but he explained these are only temporary.
The American Cancer Society is sponsoring the Great American Smoke Out Thursday, November 18th encouraging smokers around the country to quit. You can go to www.cancer.org for more information on ways to quit smoking.
