LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - Kids in Beauregard Parish got a first hand experience on what it is like on the wrong side of the law. The Beauregard Parish Sheriff's office hosted a lock up prevention meeting, allowing children to hear from an inmate, and take a tour of the jail.
Some of the children did not like the thought of having to share a cell with a large group of people, others worried about the food. Their main concern was actually being behind bars.
"It is all cramped, and squished," said one child.
"I am pretty sure you can learn a lesson or two behind bars," said another child.
John Rainwater is the warden at the Beauregard Parish Jail. He said events like the lock up prevention meeting is a good way to remind kids of the consequences that go along with breaking the law.
"We've had a success rate. We've had a couple kids call us. They were having trouble in school, and at home. For a few weeks a little boy would call us to tell us how he was doing," said John Rainwater.
