6th McNeese president inauguration Sunday

LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) - McNeese State University is inaugurating its sixth president.

Philip C. Williams took office July 1, but will be presented with the ceremonial chain and medallion in a ceremony Sunday afternoon.

Williams, a native of North Carolina, came to Lake Charles from Montevallo, Ala., where he was president of the University of Montevallo. He also has been an administrator at Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs, N.C., and at Methodist College in Fayetteville, N.C.

Before his academic jobs, he was corporate legal counsel for Sea World Inc. in San Diego, Calif., and its parent company Harcourt Brace Jovanovich Inc. in San Diego and New York.

He also is an author of mysteries and non-fiction works, and, with his wife, Sandra G. Garrett, a series of children's mysteries.
