LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - McNeese State junior safety Darrell Jenkins was named the Southland Conference's Defensive Player of the Week after his performance in the Pokes win over Sam Houston on Saturday.

Jenkins had seven tackles, two sacks and recovered a fumble that helped stop a Bearkat drive deep in McNeese territory in the fourth quarter.

It's the second week in a row a Cowboy defender has received the honor.  Desmund Lighten was named Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Cowboys over Nicholls State.

This week Lighten was an honorable mention for the Special Teams Player of the Week and Jacob Bower was honorable mention on offense.

The Pokes return home to take on Texas State on Saturday.
