Wildfires reported in southwest Louisiana

By David Bray - email

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - Several wildfires were reported in southwest Louisiana on Thursday.

The two of the largest fires were in DeQuincy and southern Beauregard Parish.

Firefighters in DeQuincy say that fire originally started Wednesday night by someone playing with matches and a lighter. The fire was put out, but it ignited again overnight.

The fire got so big that a state forestry plane was brought in to survey the fire to help firefighters get a plan to battle the blaze.

The fires were not a surprise. Forecasters had issued a Red Flag Warning for Thursday, citing strong winds and very dry conditions.

Calcasieu OHSEP officials are warning motorists to be careful south of the fire, where smoke could hinder visibility.

Officials also say residents as far south as Carylss could smell the smoke from the fire.

Nice day to get outside on MondayNice day to get outside on Monday

Tonight, skies will be clear and we will have little to no chance for rain. It will not be as cold tonight. Temperatures will still get down to the 30s for Southwest Louisiana, but we should not see any freezing temperatures. If you head out tonight, you will still need to grab a coat. As we go through this week, the weather will be nothing less than perfect! We will have lots of sunshine and little to no chance for rain. We are on a gradual warming trend.
