CHILE (KPLC) - An incredibly dramatic scene is unfolding in Chile today, as the 33 miners are pulled to the surface one-by-one after more than 2 months underground.
So far, a number of miners have been rescued. The rest will be hoisted up during a tedious process that's expected to continue through the day.
Florencio Avalos was the first of the miners to be rescued, surviving 69 days underground.
He stepped out of the rescue capsule to be greeted by his family and Chilean President Sebastian Pinera. He was then escorted into a medical triage center for the first of a battery of tests.
Chile's health minister says the miners rescued thus far are all in good health and that none have needed any special medical attention.
