Group unveils plans for Hard Rock Casino in Lake Charles

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC-TV) – A group who wants to bring a Hard Rock Casino to Lake Charles unveiled their plans Tuesday evening before the Lake Charles City Council.

St. Gabriel Downs, LLC is vying to bring a Hard Rock Casino, similar to the one in Biloxi, Mississippi, to a tract of land located west of the Old Harrah's Property.

The $350 million project would include 200 hotel rooms, a Hard Rock live venue and amphitheater, which would play host to concerts from some of the entertainment industry's biggest stars, an outdoor swimming pool, high-end restaurants, bars and retail shops.

City council members and many audience members seemed impressed by the Lafayette-based group's designs, but were cautiously optimistic.

For instance, one audience member wanted to know whether the Hard Rock Lake Charles would still be the economic engine developers are promising if Texas suddenly legalized gaming.

Project developer William Trotter said absolutely.

"We think, know and feel from an economic standpoint that this project will stand the test of time, regardless of what Texas does," said Trotter.

It will be up to the state gaming control board to determine which of the four groups competing for the license will ultimately be successful.
