LAKE CHARLES, LA.(KPLC) -The Calcasieu Parish Geographic Information System Department has unveiled a new layer on their online interactive maps.

The maps are for the public to use and the new layer provides CAER  information -- that stands for Calcasieu Alliance Emergency Response.

During emergency events, people can log on to see if there area is included in warnings related to hazardous incidents.

The map includes community warning zones designated for all industrial facilities if a hazardous incident should arise in the future.

The new layer will compliment the Calcashout Emergency Alert System housed at the Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness.

Calcashout notifies registered residents if an emergency impacts the area they reside in by phone, text or email.
