The following is from the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry:
Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF) firefighting crews continue to battle an unusually large number of fires for this time of year, Commissioner Mike Strain, D.V.M., said.
Thursday Oct. 7, LDAF crews suppressed 23 wildfires that burned 111.58 acres. Since Oct. 1, LDAF crews have suppressed 189 wildfires that burned 3,588 acres.
Forestry officials said the potential for wildfire is significant in many areas of the state. With no considerable rainfall expected in the near future, Forestry officials are urging citizens to heed the statewide outdoor burn ban.
Strain and State Fire Marshal Butch Browning declared a statewide outdoor burn ban Oct. 2 and the ban will remain in effect until rescinded.
