One dead after crash in Beauregard Parish

BEAUREGARD PARISH, LA (KPLC) - Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a two vehicle crash early Thursday morning on LA 3226 at Taylor Road in Beauregard Parish.

According to officials, an 18-wheeler driven by 57-year-old Gregory P. Whittington of Merryville was traveling east on Taylor Road when he stopped for a stop sign located at LA 3226.

Whittington then turned north onto LA 3226. A 2006 GMC driven by 42-year-old Pamela Hernandez of DeRidder was traveling north on LA 3226 and struck the rear of the 18-wheeler north of the intersection.

Hernandez was alert and speaking at the scene, but she died of internal injuries while being transported to a Lake Charles hospital. Whittington suffered no injuries.

Authorities say alcohol use on the part of Hernandez is suspected to be a factor in the crash and she was not wearing a seat belt.  Blood samples were taken from both drivers for analysis and the crash remains under investigation.
