LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - A big part of downtown development could soon be underway. On Wednesday, the Lake Charles city council picked a contractor for the Ryan Street Streetscape project.

A company call H.D. Truck and Tractor said it can pull off the latest downtown development project for $5.8million. Construction is expected to last around 15 months, and could start as early as this December.

"I really think that this Ryan street project is going to be, probably one of the most predominant projects for the local citizens, as far as setting the stage for development in the downtown area," said Lori Marinovich with the city of Lake Charles.
