LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) – Polls have now closed across Southwest Louisiana.
Voters across the five parish region are deciding a number of key races, including mayors and police chiefs; they'll also decide whether or not to support some tax proposals.
According to Calcasieu Clerk of Courts Lynn Jones, voter turnout is higher than expected in some areas.
Jones attributes this to competitive local races, like two elections in Westlake, for mayor and police chief.
Jones said some areas look to be around 30%, while turnout in some areas where there are no competitive races or issues will be around 10%.
