METAIRIE, LA (AP) - Saints coach Sean Payton says cornerback Randall Gay has not yet been cleared to return from his concussion but still could play against the Atlanta Falcons. Payton says Gay had an independent medical evaluation on
Thursday and will have a follow-up exam on Friday. If Gay is cleared, the reserve defensive back could resume his role in five- and six-defensive back formations.
Saints reserve running back Chris Ivory and offensive tackle Zach Strief have been upgraded. Both had practiced on a limited basis on Wednesday as they recover from knee injuries, but both practiced fully on Thursday.
Payton says he's optimistic that Ivory could have a role in the game.
Reserve linebacker Anthony Waters remains sidelined by a hamstring injury.
