LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - It came down to the final seconds, but the Saints were able to beat the San Francisco 49ers thanks to a Garrett Hartley field goal, 25-22.
The field goal deflected off the hand of a 49er defender, but still managed to make it through the uprights as the final seconds ticked off the clock.
San Francisco's Frank Gore scored a touchdown with 1:19 left in the game to cut the Saints lead to 22-20. Alex Smith would then hook up with his tight end Vernon Davis on the two point conversion to tie the game up.
1:19 is all Drew Brees and the Saints needed. The quarterback drove New Orleans down the field to set up Hartley's game winning 37 yard field goal.
The Saints improved their record to 2-0 on the season, and return to New Orleans to take on their division rival, the Atlanta Falcons, next Sunday.
