BEAUMONT, TX (KPLC) - Interstate 10 near Beaumont reopened to traffic late Wednesday morning after being closed for nearly three days after a chemical spill that happened Sunday.
A big rig carrying the chemical Isobutene was involved in an accident with another car on Sunday. The crash caused the potentially dangerous substance to spill onto the roadway.
The spill shut down both east and west bound lanes near Beaumont for several days as officials offloaded the chemicals from the damaged tanker, then removed it from the roadway.
Texas highway officials say the shutdown was a safety precaution and because of the complicated nature of the cleanup, took several days to complete.
