Kinder man awarded purple heart

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - A Kinder soldier serving our country in Afghanistan who lost one of his legs while on patrol was awarded a Purple Heart in Washington, D.C. on Monday by President Barack Obama.

Justin Mouser was doing a dismounted patrol looking for enemy activity in Afghanistan. When dawn approached, his unit decided to pick up and push across a bridge. When doing so, Mouser stepped on an explosive device. He lost his left leg below the knee because of the blast, and also suffered injuries to his right leg.

Mouser is currently undergoing treatment for his injuries at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

President Obama stopped to visit with Mouser on Monday. During his visit, he awarded Mouser with a Purple Heart.
