LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - The polls have been opened since 6 this morning for people in Louisiana to vote in the 1st Party Primary Election.
Voters in Calcasieu Parish can cast their ballot at the Registrar of Voters Office or the Sulphur City Council Chambers
This election is slightly different than other ones, registered voters are only allowed to vote inside their party affiliation.
For example, a voter registered as Democrat, Libertarian, or Republican are eligible to vote *only* for their respective party candidate.
Citizens registered as none are eligible to vote either Democratic or Libertarian.
This weekend's election does not include candidates from the reform and green parties, so the voters in those parties will not be allowed to vote.
The polls close at 8 tonight, and we'll post the results once they're in here and on 7 News Nightcast.
