Wildlife sculpture to be installed on Lakefront fountain

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - Monday morning the crowning jewel of the Lakefront Promenade is set to be installed. The statue created by world-renowned artist and wildlife sculptor Kent Ullberg, features three greater white-fronted geese - set in bronze, double sized - and created to look as though they are taking flight. Ullberg says it took more than a year and half to get it just right.

"This really is one of the most beautiful places that will showcase one of my statues - and I have art all over the world. It's kind of intriguing to get the effect of likeness of them flying or taking off and yet they have to be structurally strong. Because as we all know you can get some strong winds here. And especially the goose on top - I wanted it to look like it's barely touching," explained Ullberg.

Work to install begins Monday morning at 8 a.m. Ullberg will supervise the installation throughout the next week to make sure everything with the plumbing and execution is worked out.
