LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - Garin Cecchini had a tough decision.

He's leaving LSU for the Red Sox.

The former Barbe Buccaneer has now signed a contract with the Boston Red Sox.  Boston selected Cecchini in the fourth round of the 2010 Major League Baseball Draft.

"It's a dream come true," Garin Cecchini said.  "This is what I've wanted to do my whole life.  They made a great offer and I accept it."

His father and head coach at Barbe High School Glenn Cecchini says Garin's signing bonus with Boston is over $1.3 million dollars.

"He went with his gut instincts," Glenn Cecchini said.  "There was a lot of research done.  His advisor did a fantastic job advising him.  I think he made the right choice.  There's no doubt in my mind."

Cecchini was going to begin his freshman year for the LSU Tigers, but the offer to join the Sox was too strong.

"It was very tough," Garin Cecchini said.  "It was my hometown school.  I've always wanted to be a Tiger, but I had to do what's best for me."

Now that he is under contract with Boston, Cecchini will report to Fort Myers, Florida on August 18th.
