LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - After an eight-month deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, men and women in the Louisiana National Guard are back on American soil.
Throughout their deployment, these Soldiers provided force protection on their bases and conducted convoy security missions throughout Iraq. Now, with families waiting, three Guardsmen arrived back in southwest Louisiana on Thursday afternoon.
"I kind of wanted to cry inside. I was excited, and I wanted to go give him a big hug," said John Ingram.
The men and women in the 256 infantry of the Louisiana National Guard said they are proud of what they do, and enjoy going to work.
"I got to speak with some of the indigenous population, and they appreciate us being there. They didn't really want us to leave," said Specialist Phillip Allen with the Louisiana National Guard.
"I figured it is something good I can do for myself, my family, my town, and my country. I enjoy it," said Jonathan Ingram with the Louisiana National Guard.
