New laws take effect today

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - This morning at midnight, more than 1,000 new laws officially went on the books in Louisiana.

One of the new laws allows the state to take any slot machine winnings, or cash game winnings, from someone behind on child support payments.

Secondly, a senior citizen nursing home bill of rights is in place to protect the elderly living in nursing homes.

According to the State Legislature website, in total, 1,053 bills passed in the 2010 regular session.

The 2010 Legislative session started on March 29, and ended on June 21.
