Lake Charles, LA (KPLC) - Tropical Depression #5 is poorly organized this morning and only packing winds of 30 mph. The official track from the National Hurricane Center still indicates that this depression could become a tropical storm over the next day. The system will make landfall along the coastline of southeast Louisiana sometime Thursday afternoon as possibly a minimal tropical storm or weaker.

Tropical storm warnings are in effect for Intracoastal City, Louisiana eastward to Destin, Florida. This warning means that tropical storm conditions are anticipated in the next 36 hours. Residents in these areas should pay close attention to the forecast today.

SWLA will not see any severe affects from the system. Rain chances will increase for the end of the week. Winds will be offshore so there is no threat for coastal flooding.

Stay tuned to the hurricane page and KPLC for the latest updates from the Stormteam.
