Lafayette man arrested for terroristic threat

VINTON, LA (KPLC) - A Lafayette man was arrested on Wednesday afternoon in Sulphur after he reportedly threatened to "blow up" the Vinton Police Department.

On Wednesday morning, a police officer with the Vinton Police Department stopped 34-year-old Abdulrahman Abdallah Helou of Lafayette for speeding on Interstate 10.

During the stop, Helou was not able to provide proof of insurance for his vehicle. The officer then removed his license plate because of an insurance violation.

After the traffic stop was completed, authorities say Helou traveled to the Department of Motor Vehicles office in Sulphur attempting to retrieve his license plate. After he was denied his plate, officials say he then called the Vinton Police Department and threatened to "blow up" the police department.

Officials with the Vinton Police Department then obtained an arrest warrant for terrorizing.

On Wednesday afternoon, Helou returned to the DMV in Sulphur. Troopers with the Louisiana State Police Troop D responded and apprehended Helou.

He was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center. His bond was set at $250,000.
