National Night Out on Tuesday, August 3

The following is a news release from the Lake Charles Police Department:

The City of Lake Charles and the Lake Charles Police Department is holding its Annual National Night Out Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010.

The purpose of this event is to come together as a community against crime and educate people on topics such as drug prevention, anti-crime programs and send a message to criminals that Lake Charles is fighting back. From 7 to 10 p.m. on August 3rd, residents in neighborhoods throughout Lake Charles are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors.

The Lake Charles Police Department will have activities at Marilyn's at 3450 5th Avenue from 5 to 9 p.m. The Dixy Drive Community Center will have events from 5 to 9 p.m., and events at 1409 St. Mary Drive will be from 5 to 7 p.m.

There will be refreshments and speakers from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and 911.

    CHRISTUS Health and the Ochsner Health System today announced plans to team up to serve the Lake Charles area.

    The joint venture will have responsibility for all future health care facilities and services operated by the two health systems in the region.
