LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - Father Wayne LeBleu, of Christ of the King church, in Lake Charles was involved in a accident at L-A Fitness in which he was found unconscious in a steam sauna with severe burns to parts of his body.

According to church members, he has been removed from a ventilator, and has even been able to say a few words.  Sunday night his congregation held a special service to pray for his speedy recovery.

Christ of the King church held a special Taize service in honor of the man they call their fearless shepherd, Father Wayne LeBleu. He had an unfortunate accident at LA Fitness, late Thursday evening.

"He did sustain an injury at a fitness center. As to why, they don't really know. That is what the upcoming scans and surgeries are for. As of now, we know he is in good spirits. He is in good condition. He is doing very well," said Korey LaVergne, Christ of the King church.

Members of Christ of the King church said Father LeBleu is recovering well, and on top of prayer, many offered words of encouragement.

"Father Wayne, you have been such a wonderful shepherd to this flock. You have taught us so well. In a case of crisis or chaos we are not to scatter," said Sharron Gaspard, Christ of the King church.

7 News did contact the owners of LA Fitness about the accident. They confirmed it did occur last Thursday, around 11pm, as they were closing. However, they said Father LeBleu is not a member of their gym, and that the incident remains under investigation.

Nevertheless, the owners said their thoughts and prayers go out to Father LeBleu and his family.

A website has been setup for people to check on the status of Father LeBleu's recovery. That link is http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/waynelebleu

Section 8 applicants will still face difficulties finding low rent housing

    Monday, July 24 2017 8:16 PM EDT2017-07-25 00:16:54 GMT

Part of the reason the waiting list takes for Section 8 Housing takes so long to pare down is because there's a shortage of Section 8 housing, at least in the Lake Charles area. It's because of the economy...and high rents.  Local officials are working to increase the dollars available, but it's still hard for residents to find the housing. "It's harder than Houston and Houston is bigger," said Kristina Broussard,  who lives in public hou...
