LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - If you tried to go westbound on I-10 this morning, you had to chose an alternate route. That's because DOTD shut down both westbound lanes of Interstate 10 after a was traveling on the bridge and noticed a lose finger joint.
Work began at 9 this morning to repair the joint, which caused heavy delays during the lunch hour as people has to take a detour route. Officials say if not acted upon quickly the incident could have caused major problems.
"It could've caused accidents because the joint that was loose, if it would've popped up, it would've faced towards oncoming traffic...today all we're doing is knocking the bolts out and replacing them, hopefully that's going to take care of our problem", says Steven Young of DOTD.
The bridge reopened around 1 this afternoon and is now flowing normally.
