LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - The wild ride continues for Saints fans in Southwest Louisiana.
The New Orleans Saints Super Bowl trophy tour made its one and only stop in Lake Charles. The event was held at the Lake Charles Civic Center. The unofficial estimate was close to 10,000 fans that showed up to get their picture taken with the Vince Lombardi trophy.
Other Saints memorabilia was on display, including game-used items from Drew Brees and Pro Football Hall of Famer Rickey Jackson.
Saints Vice President of Ticket and Suite Sales Mike Stanfield helped organize this event. He says the Saints organization is very much aware of the passion that Saints fans have here in Southwest Louisiana.
"We're not next door," Stanfield said. "We're a couple of hours away but there's no question this is Saints country. Look at the season ticket holders that drive over there. Look at the highway early morning on game day going over to New Orleans from here. This is Saints country. It's not (Houston) Texans'."
Even though they shut the doors when the event ended at six o'clock, all fans who were in attendance were able to get a picture with the Lombardi Trophy. Stanfield says it's important to reward the loyalty of Saints fans.
"People are talking about this being a once in a lifetime experience," Stanfield said. "Somebody said ‘well, are you going to cut off the line at six o'clock?' No, we're not going to cut the line off. This is about the people. And without the people here, we're not in business."
Your world champion Saints open training camp on July 30th.
