The following is a news release from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office:
Lake Charles, LA – On July 6, while working security at a retail store, a Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office deputy observed a 13-year-old girl attempting to leave the store without paying for merchandise.
The investigation revealed the 13-year-old and Janice N. Jackson, 27, of Lake Charles, put the merchandise in bags and loaded them in their buggy then attempted to leave the store.
Further investigation revealed the 13-year-old and Jackson had gone into the same store earlier that day and shoplifted dresses. Jackson gave consent to search her house and detectives found the dresses.
Jackson was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with theft over $500; theft; and 6 counts of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. The 13-year-old was arrested for theft over $500 and theft. She was released to her family.
Judge Ron Ware set Jackson's bond at $4,500.
CPSO Detectives Deveda Benoit and Roy Lee Jones are the lead investigators.
