Woman dies after she was hit by car

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - A woman who was reportedly walking across the street at the intersection of Highway 14 and 8th Street early Monday morning was killed when a car driving down the road struck her.

The Lake Charles Police Department responded to the scene. The initial investigation shows that 22-year-old Tana Baldwin walked into the path of a 2001 Toyota 4Runner driven by 19-year-old Kyle Phillips of Iowa.

Baldwin was pronounced dead at a local hospital later Monday morning.

Authorities say witnesses at the scene provided information that Baldwin walked into the path of the vehicle and was struck.

Toxicology reports on both Baldwin and Phillips are pending. No arrest or citation has been issued because the investigation is still underway.
